Workshop on ‘Relevant Communicative Teaching’
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad organized a One-day Workshop on ‘Relevant Communicative Teaching’ for teachers of English with CBSE, ICSE, Jharkhand State Board and Vinoba Bhave University affiliation.
Inaugurating the Workshop, Sri P. K. Lahiri, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, ISMU Executive Board and General Council, exhausted the teachers to impart the skills of precise and correct writing and speaking so that students at Secondary level are well grounded to develop their professional skills at higher level. Recalling his various experiences as a bureaucrat, he emphasized that learning and teaching good English is an asset.
Professor R. K. Singh, Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, pointed out that the internet had already altered most of our previous concepts to do with language and many teachers, therefore, might have found themselves irrelevant. He expressed the need for sensitivity for language and its teaching in various contexts, so that literacy skills, fluency and comprehension could be developed.
The objective of the workshop was to pool opinions, experiences and devise suitable measure within the constraints of ones teaching situation.
The twenty-seven participants concentrated on teaching poetry, short stories, grammar, paragraph writing and vocabulary to young learners in a creative manner. Dr. M. Mojibur Rahman and Dr. Rajni Singh, Assistant Professors coordinated the activities.
