Prof. Tarkeshwar Kumar, born in 1956 in the State of Bihar, had his schooling in the prestigious Netarhat Residential School of Jharkhand in 1972.
Prof. T. Kumar obtained his B.Tech in Petroleum Engg from ISM, Dhanbad with First Class Honours in 1977 and M.Tech in Petroleum Engg. with first class in 1984. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engg. from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, U.K. in 1988 under prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship award.
Prof. Kumar started his career as Petroleum Engineer Trainee in the Assam Oil Co. Ltd, Digboi a subsidiary of Burmah Oil Company, U.K in 1977 and served there for about 4 years from August 1977 to June 1981 in various capacities as Petroleum Engineer Trainee, Assistant Engineer (Petroleum) and Transport Controller.
He joined ISM, Dhanbad as Lecturer in 1981, became Assistant Professor in 1984 and Professor in 1992. He served as Head of the Department during 1992-98, as Dean of Students Welfare during 2001-03 and as Dean (Academic & Research) during 2003-05, before assuming the office of Director, ISM in August, 2005.
Prof. T. Kumar, currently is the Director, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and holds additional charge of Director, National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology, Ranchi since 11 April, 2008.
Prof. Kumar has completed several research projects and supervised many M.Tech and Ph.D. theses on the studies on modeling of artificial island for development of oilfields, problems of oilfield scales and corrosion, oil and gas well testing and optimization of petroleum production, coal bed methane, reservoir evaluation and testing, economic evaluation of petroleum venture, well stimulation etc.
He has to his credit over hundred National and International technical publications and a patent on plant based corrosion inhibitor for protection of steel.
Prof. Kumar’s academic and research contributions have been well appreciated by way of membership of Professional bodies, Expert committees, visit abroad for paper presentation and invited lectures.
He has been a popular teacher in the training programmes conducted for the executives of oil, gas and other related industries and has also coordinated a number of such training courses for executives of petroleum industry.
Prof. Kumar is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India (FIE), Life Members of Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Indian Geological Congress (IGC) and Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG). He is also a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), USA & Computer Society of India (CSI).
He has served as expert member of various selection and monitoring committees set up by the Central Govt. agencies, viz. UPSC, UGC, DST-TIFAC and AICTE. He is serving as Visitor’s Nominee i.e. nominee of President of India of IIT, Kharagpur. He has been reviewer of CSIR and IEI journals, assessor of MGMI Transactions and technical editor of SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering, USA and Canadian Journal of Petroleum Technology.
He has visited countries like UK, USA, Kuwait and Turkey for technical interaction and presenting papers.
He is also a member of Academic Councils of UPES, Dehradun and BHU, Varanasi. He is also member of BOG of BIT, Sindri, Institute of Environment Management and Studies, Jamshedpur.
Prof. Kumar is a recipient of the Prestigious National Mineral Award-2008 by the Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, in recognition of his significant contribution in the field of Oil and Gas.
In recent years he has been involved in the institution building. With the help of the team of able academics, the institute under his directorship has started several new traditional and innovative academic programmes in Mining management, Petroleum management, Mineral resource management, Environmental science & engineering, integrated Earth sciences, Applied sciences, Mathematics, Mathematics & Computing etc.
His contributions to the advancement of engineering education as dedicated, competent and accomplished academician, researcher and author of technical papers in the areas of energy sector are regarded as commendable.

Prof Laik is serving as faculty in the Petroleum Engg Department since 1977. Before joining the department, he worked for four years in the pipeline sector of oil and gas industry in India, Singapore, and Indonesia. During 1981-83 he served as visiting faculty in Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. His research interests include flow of oil through pipeline; stress analysis of pipeline; hydraulic fracturing simulation; and enhanced oil recovery. Currently he is engaged in a new UGC-SAP project on “study of nucleation of Gas Hydrates” where an indigenously designed and fabricated set up (first of its kind in India)
has been used. He has published 30 technical papers in referred journals and has guided many M.Tech and Ph.D scholars. He is life time Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). Presently he is the Head of the Department. |

Prof V P Sharma joined Petroleum Engineering Department in 1982 as Project Officer. He has published more than thirty four research papers and has also presented papers at many International and National conferences in India and abroad.
He has presented a paper in SPE Conference at Jakarta in 1994 and also in Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference organised by SPE at Australia during 11-13 September, 2006. Prof Sharma has also been awarded certificate of Merit by the Institute of Engineers (India) for his research paper. He has been selected as Environmental Fellow by the Asia Foundation in the year 1994 under the auspices of United States-Asia Environmental Partnership Programme to study about the environment and remediation at Oil Fields in and around California USA, and also visited a few Petroleum Institutes/Universities in USA. He has also handled sponsored research projects on petroleum related topics which are funded by agencies like UGC, CSIR etc. He has also guided Ph.D and M.Tech students.

Dr. A.K.Pathak has been serving the department as faculty since 1984. Research area is surface activity of oil & its fraction and their effect on fluid flow through porous media. One UGC sponsored research Project has been completed.
He is actively involved in development of computer soft wares and expert system on various areas of drilling system design, Directional drilling and on Horizontal Well Technology. He has presented 20 research papers in national and international conferences and in published 25 papers in national proceedings and journals.

Dr. Ajay Mandal has done B.Sc. & B.Tech. from Calcutta University and M.E. from Jadavpur University in Chemical Engineering. He has obtained his PhD degree from IIT-Kharagpur. He ranked 1st class 3rd in B.Sc (Chemistry Hons., C.U., 1993) and recipient of Gold Medalist in M.ChE. (J.U.) in 1998 and DAAD Fellowship (Technische Universitat Braunschweig, Germany) in 2008.
Dr. Mandal is presently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, ISM Dhanbad. Before joining ISM, he has worked as Principal Investigator of a DST-Fast Track Young Scientist Project and Lecturer in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. He has also one-year industrial experience in a modern polyester plant.
Currently Dr. Mandal is carrying out his research works on gas hydrates, enhanced oil recovery and multi-phase flow system. He has published around 30 research papers in reputed peer reviewed International and National Journals and presented/participated more than 25 National and International Conferences. He is the reviewer of more than 10 International Journals like Chemical Engineering Science, Chemical Engineering Journal, Petroleum Science and Engineering, Petroleum Science and Technology etc. He is also a member in the editorial board of International Journal of Petroleum Engineering. He is currently handling four major projects sponsored by CSIR, UGC and Ministry of Coal.

Dr. Keka Ojha, Associate Professor of the Department of Petroleum Engineering has nearly 8 years of research and teaching experience. Dr. Ojha, a graduate in Chemical Engineering (Hons.) from Jadavpur University has received her Masters and Doctoral degree from IIT, Kharagpur in Chemical Engineering. Before joining ISM Dhanbad, she has worked as Research Associate in University of Notre Dame, USA and Lecturer in Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. Presently she is running foue research projects sponsored by CSIR, UGC and Ministry of Coal (S & T).
She is currently involved in the research work in the fields of Reservoir Engineering including Simulation, EOR Techniques, Stimulation, Chemical Reaction Engineering and Coal Bed Methane.

Dr. Guria is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, ISM University Dhanbad. Before joining ISM University, he has worked as: (i) R & D Engineer at Adarsh Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited (Udhna, Surat: March 1993 - January 1996); (ii) Process Engineer at Medicorp Technologies (I) Limited (Secunderabad: January 1996 – November 1996); (iii) Assistant Manager at Reliance Industries Limited (Hazira, Surat: November 1996 - December 1999) and (iv) Lecturer (Selection grade) at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi [Department of Polymer Engineering: January 1999 (lecturer) – February 2009 (Lecturer, Selection Grade)].
He is currently involved in the research work in the field of (i) multi-objective optimization of industrial units e.g., forth flotation circuit optimization, desalination units, direct contact membrane distillation unit, effluent treatment units and polymerization reactors, (ii) alternative sources of petrochemical products from non-edible vegetable oils, (iii) fuel from plastics waste and (iv) reservoir fluid thermodynamics, and (v) enhanced oil recovery using functionalized nano-particles.
He has ten publications in peer reviewed international journals and one paper is under review. He has also presented four technical papers in national/international conferences.
He received best IIME (Indian Institute of Metallurgical Engineer) paper award on beneficiation in 2005, Titled: Simultaneous Optimization of the Performance of Flotation Circuits and their Simplification Using Jumping Gene Adaptation of Genetic Algorithm (C.
