How do I reach Dhanbad?

Dhanbad
is situated around 270 kms from Calcutta in Howrah Delhi route. All important
trains including Rajdhani & Satabdi Express stop here. If you are coming
from North side take either Rajdhani Express, Poorva Express, Kalka Mail,
Jammu-Tawi Express, or
New-Delhi-Howrah Express. In addition Purusottam Express
and Jharkhand Express passes through
Gomoh, which is 30 minutes from
Dhanbad.
If you are coming from Bombay side - Bombay Howrah mail is the direct train to
Dhanbad. There is one bi-weekly train from Ahmedabad to
Dhanbad. From South
Allepy Dhanbad Express is the direct train. Otherwise come to Howrah and from
Howrah you have a large number of trains to
Dhanbad. The nearest airport
connected to all major cities of the country is Kolkata Airport. More details

How is the law & order situation at Dhanbad?

Dhanbad is one of the safest places in India. Population being cosmopolitan in
nature rarely there is any disturbance here. A cycle rickshaw/taxi is available
throughout day & night from Dhanbad Railway Station to ISMU campus. Further
ISMU has its own security staff, which makes the security inside ISMU campus
perfect. Extra care is taken for girls inside campus and in the Girls hostel.

Then why is it called School of Mines?
|

ISMU was established in 1926 in the pattern of Royal School of Mines, London.
Inspite of seven different B Tech Branches and many M Tech & M.Sc Courses,
the traditional name is still maintained due to its rich heritage. |

offers fifteen M Tech courses mostly in engineering & M.Phil Courses in
Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics,
M.Sc/M.Sc Tech courses in Applied Geology

Each year some students go for higher studies abroad. Any student willing to go
to the countries like USA, Canada, Australia, U.K etc get admissions and almost
every student getting admission also gets financial assistance in term of
scholarship and teaching assistance. Many faculty members in foreign
universities are alumni of ISMU. Some join IIMs/FMs/XLRI & Other reputed
Institution after graduation. |

already mentioned, ISMU has its rich heritage. It has strong alumni allover the
world. A proposal for ISMU for becoming an IIT is discussed often. However to
convert any institution into IIT is a policy decision by Central Government. ` |
