Academics
ISM reputed as a school of earth sciences from its inception has emerged into a one of the premium universities for technical education and research. ISM has incorporated the tradition of academic excellence and innovation. The students who have qualified from the school have always brought laurels to the country and the school through their outstanding achievements and leadership qualities. Students get exposed to the highest quality of engineering education and research as well as an environment that instills in them a high potential to achieve any kind of objectives. The faculty of the institute have distinguished themselves through awards for academic activity from National as well as International organizations. A number of conferences, symposia and workshops are organized by the departments which attract participation from scholars all over the world. The School has fifteen academic departments and some specialized research centres that carry out the various academic activities. The academic curriculum requires the students to opt for various elective courses within their department. This gives them a broader perspective of the various research fields in their chosen domain.
Co-curricular Activities
Academic study at each level are balanced with a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The inventive and leadership spirit of the students is brought to the fore in the annual technocultural festival of ISM, Srijan, where the inventive engineering brains compete for success. Many departments also have their own technical festivals like Mechathlon & Sparx to foster the spirit of engineering. Apart from the Technical events ISM also hosts various sporting events like Mukabula, Calcio Cup & Rebound which are National level Cricket, Football & Basketball Events respectively. There are also various active student societies like Cyber Society, Chaynika Society, Photographic Society, Cultural Scientific & Literary Society, Music Society, Sports Society, NSS , Yoga which promote the students in various extracurricular activities.
Evaluation System
Students are evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the semester. Evaluation is done by the faculty. The institute follows the Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) system. The OGPA is on a scale of 0 to 10. Each course carries a certain number of credits and the grades are awarded to the students for each course on completion.The letter grade and their Grade Points are shown below:

The OGPA is computed as the cumulative credit-weighted average of the GPA of the individual semester:

- N is the number of subjects.
- T is the number of semesters.
- Ci is credit hours for the ith subject
- Gi is grade points for the ith subject
- TCPi is total credit points for the ith semester.
- TCHi is total credit hours for the ith semester.
- GPA is grade point average which is calculated upto 2nd place of decimal.
- OGPA is the overall grade point average.
